Animals of Russia Week 5

The Common Northern Viper, scientifically known as Vipera Berus.  This Venomous snake is found in Europe and Western Russia.  If you do not handle this animal carefully it well strike angrily because of it's short temper.  Male Vipers have a distinguished light brown on its back and even grey while females are significantly brighter, with a bright yellow color to even red at times.  The sides of this snake have spots so it should be easy to identify.  The Viper will grow to be about 6-7 inches but will act like they are the largest snake in the world.  In 2006 it was announced that they are a protected species.  Next week you will be reading about the grey wolf.
